Farewell Dinks???

Last night a few of us went out for drinks.  I'd like to think that the get together was to wish me farewell and happy travels.  I'm realistic and know it wasn't all about me, it was in fact a pre Christmas catch up.  I know that this post isn't entirely trip related, but hey, I'm in holiday mode and as far as I'm concerned, this is the prelude to Tuesday's take off.

We have (L to R): Maryellen, Shelley, Shelley, Me and Kirsty (with her eyes closed!!)

We headed into the city to Lafayette, for a couple of cocktails and some shared bar snacks.  We then headed to Vanish or Varnish (some new hip underground bar). Us Nannas got there and thought, we're too old, it's too hot, service is too slow, so we downed some water that up for grabs and left.  Headed onto 1907, and hit the jackpot (or so we thought).  There was no one there, and the air conditioner was cranked right up.  We were in our element. Nothing more to do but to order a cocktail, helpful young lad in skinny leg jeans of Welsh heritage comes to take our order.  "This is too good to be true" we are all thinking... and it was.

Turns out young skinny jeaned lad is the manager. Quite frankly we ended up with a lecture on the ins and out of liquors (he even picked up some bottle and started telling us information about it origins and was using 'game show hand' motions as he's educating us), the Jim Beam factory and it's associated labels, how he's so good, where he has worked and so on and on and on AND ON.  Enough already.   When skinny jeaned lad left us alone to our devices, we had some great old laughs.

Then came the cocktail making process.  He is making our four cocktails with great vigour and enthusiasm.  We chose to ignore the cocktail making show he was clearly putting on for us, there was bottles flying in the air, the whole shebang!! He'd lost my interest after about 3 minutes of talking.  I think he fancied himself as a bit of a Brian O'Flannigan (Tom Cruise character in the movie Cocktail), personally I just found him annoying.

So then we moved onto the Aviary rooftop bar.  Yes there was a bit of queue, and as only Shelley would/could, had a quite word in the 'Door Coordinators' ear and after about 5 minutes we were pulled out of the queue and sent up to the roof..  We got our one drink, managed to find a fan to stand in front of and then left.  So at 11.15pm our night was done. We went down hill pretty quickly, decided it was time to get out of the city and get some shut eye.

I must say, Perth CBD once upon a time on a Saturday night was dead.  I was most impressed with the activity and availability of night life that is popping up.  Long overdue. Overall a good night was had by all (and not once were our school days spoken about, which is a rarity for us).
